Week 10 Term 1 2023
Dear All
This week is a sacred time in our Church. As a school community we have gathered each day in prayer focussing on the messages of Holy Week. One of the messages I was presented with this week was from Matthew’s Gospel account of the Passion of the Lord. Simon of Cyrene was asked to carry Jesus’ cross. Every day we are presented with opportunities to help others and “carry their cross”. These opportunities aren’t usually big events, they are usually ordinary occurrences like helping someone carry their groceries or holding the door open for them. Simon of Cyrene models the Gospel’s invitation to put other people’s needs before our own and not expect anything in return.
REDEVELOPMENT NEWS
Rosary Jubilee Centre (the Gym)
Works are progressing well and partial handover of the gym to OSHC will occur on 1 May. During the School Holidays, Vacation Care will operate from the Staffroom. All OSHC children should enter through the office on Gladstone Road.
The final handover of the Rosary Jubilee Centre should be on the 16th May.
Gladstone Road Site
We have commenced work with our preferred builder, BADGE Constructions (SA) Pty Ltd. The Site Manager and Project Manager will begin work during the April term break. In preparation for the commencement of the project we are currently in the process of decanting the Hall and our maintenance sheds ready for demolition. In addition to this, the 3HA class will be in the Library for the remainder of the year.
Italian, Performing Arts and Library lessons will be conducted in each classroom until we take possession of our new building early in 2024.
Over the next twelve months we will operate split lunch breaks with Reception to Year 2 lunch starting at 12.35 pm and Year 3 to Year 6 starting lunch at 1.15 pm. The P&F will not offer Hot Chocolates in Term 2 and Term 3 this year.
The next twelve months will be a time of change and transformation that will bring with it many challenges that we will need to address as they present themselves. Please do not hesitate to speak with me about any concerns you have regarding the redevelopment of the school.
SPORTS DAY
It was a difficult decision to cancel Sports Day this morning however the safety of our students is paramount. When I arrived at the atletics stadium the track was slippery and all equipment was wet. I apologise to all families for the inconvenience, espcially those who had taken leave from their workplace. Nonetheless, on arriving to school this morning, I was overwhlemed by the positive responses from the children. Brenton Campbell and I will explore options for rescheduling this event.
Have a wonderful Easter break. See you next Tuesday.
Regards
Susan
Holy Week Liturgies
This week we celebrated Holy Week at Rosary School. This is the time when we remember the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Various years groups were involved in preparing whole school liturgies covering themes relating to Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Resurrection of Jesus. While we reflected on the events in the last week of Jesus' life on earth, we also have taken time to reflect on the importance of Jesus and his example in our own lives today.
In our Palm Sunday liturgy, we celebrated Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, where he was warmly greeted and praised by the crowds. Our Reception Students reminded us of the power of faith, and the life changing nature of Christ’s message.
As we reflected on Holy Thursday, we reflected on the events of the Last Supper and the relationship between Jesus and his disciples. These themes were explored by our Year 1 students and Year 4 students, who also focused on the denial of Jesus by Peter.
In our reflections on Good Friday, we explored the Stations of the Cross in remembrance of the suffering and death of Jesus on the cross. The themes covered enabled our community to deepen our understanding of Christ’s sacrifice, and to reflect on our own capacity for love and compassion.
Finally, in Week 11, our Year 2 students will lead us in our reflections on the resurrection of Jesus, and his victory over death. Their liturgy will remind us to have faith and hope even in the most challenging of times, and the transformative power of Christ’s message. This will be held on Tuesday 11th April at 9am under the Jacaranda tree.
Project Compassion
Heartful thanks in advance for all contributions made to the Project Compassion boxes over the season of Lent. We encourage families to make a final push to ensure that a full Caritas box is returned to Rosary School. We ask that all boxes could be returned to classroom teachers by next Tuesday.

In Maths this term students have begun investigating 2D shapes and 3D objects. Students have sorted through examples of 2D shapes and 3D objects in their environment. They have also used 2D shapes to make a piece of art depicting a picture or object. Students used both mediums of pastels and water colour to complete their artwork.
During the first half of the term, RSM students explored the HASS topic ‘My Family and I’. Students participated in a range of learning tasks that investigated all types of families and their place within it. One area of learning focused on what students want to be when they grow up.
‘When I grow up I want to be a Police Office’ – Brax
‘When I grow up I want to be a Scientist’ – Leilani
‘When I grow up I want to be a Train Driver’ – Phoenix
‘When I grow up I want to be an Eye Surgeon’ – Zoe
‘When I grow up I want to be a fashion designer’ – Eve
Finally, in Religious Education this term students have been learning about Holy Week. Students hosted our Whole School Palm Sunday Liturgy on Friday of Week 9. They did a great job at reading, acting and singing throughout the Liturgy. Students have continued to learn about the events leading up to Jesus’ resurrection. They participated in a Last Supper activity in class where the class gathered together on the floor to share bread and a cup of cordial to represent wine, whilst listening to the Last Supper story and sharing prayers during this Lenten season.

Parents at the Cali Night
On Friday, 31st of March, the P and F hosted parents at the Caledonian Hotel in North Adelaide. It was a great chance for new parents to meet and talk outside of school. There were plenty of new faces on the night who asked questions they were unsure about and learned how strong the Rosary School community is. It is great to see our school community growing and coming together.
Hot Chocolates Term 2 and 3
Unfortunately, hot chocolates will not be on offer for Terms 2 and 3, due to the building works progress. The P and F committee are working on an alternative and will notify families as soon as possible.
