Week 10 Term 2 2021
Dear Rosary Community
Last weekend, 22 Year 4 children celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation and some of them also celebrated their First Eucharist. We have more children celebrating their First Eucharist this weekend. I congratulate each of these children on becoming fully initiated members of our Catholic Church. I thank each family, our Parish and our staff for the preparation of each child.
On Sunday I also went to Rosary School Family Movie Day. It has been a while since I have sat through a feature length children’s movie – especially a movie with so many monsters! When authors or script writers create a text they usually have an underlying theme or message for their audience. My interpretation of the author’s message was the need to work together to solve problems. We saw Danny and Liz demonstrate many of the capabilities our children will require to be successful in the future – teamwork, collaboration, communication, negotiation, predicting outcomes, calculated risk taking and self-reflection.
This week I have also signed each child’s Semester One report. When reading the children’s reports, I particularly focussed on a child’s effort and the comments written by teachers about their capabilities. All children should be congratulated for their effort as they develop the skills required to be successful in the 21st Century.
As we come to the end of another term of school, I would like to thank the parent community for all the work they do to support the children at Rosary School. This week we had a number of parents volunteering in the school community. An excursion to Payinthi to acknowledge NAIDOC Week, the Year 3 – 6 Netball carnival where many parents made their umpiring and coaching debuts! The Year 1 children also went to The Wizard of Oz performance by OLSH students. I especially want to thank these parents. With the COVID restrictions put in place on Monday evening, the parents were unable to watch the performance with the children due to numbers in the theatre. I very much appreciate your flexibility and understanding of this unexpected occurrence.
Thank you also to the wonderful staff for all they do for the children at Rosary School.
I understand that at Rosary School, children often wear casual clothes on the last day of each term. This year the 5/6 Social Justice Leaders and/or the SRC students have chosen different days to organise casual/themed clothes to support various organisations. There will be opportunities for the 5/6 Social Justice Leaders and/or the SRC to organise a fundraising event in Term 3.
I hope you all have the opportunity for some quiet family time over the mid-year break and I look forward to seeing you all again on Tuesday, 20th July.

Sacrament Program
It was wonderful to celebrate 22 students from Rosary School receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation last Saturday. 11 of these students then went on to also receive the Sacrament of Eucharist for the very first time. Congratulations to all students and I ask that you keep them in your prayers at this special time.
For those families who have a child receiving the Sacrament of Eucharist this coming weekend, please note the following message from Father Paul:
The First Holy Communions scheduled for this weekend will be celebrated as planned at 6pm Saturday Mass and Sunday 10am Mass at Rosary Church.
You do not have to wear a mask.
BUT the numbers allowed in church are reduced, so every second pew will be cordoned off and unused.
This means firstly, that candidates for First Holy Communion can be accompanied only by the number of people who can comfortably occupy one pew. That would be 9 at the most. Therefore, some family members or friends may have to stay at home. This is regrettable, but necessary for us to do what is right to reduce the risk of further infections. And to keep within the law, which imposes large fines for non-compliance.
Secondly, parishioners should avoid the Saturday 6pm and Sunday 10am Masses, to prevent overcrowding. Attend Mass at St Laurence's, or at 8am or 5.30pm on Sunday.
Lastly, and this is essential, all those attending church services at either church must register your attendance, either using the QR code, or entering your name and contact details on the paper forms. Only by doing this can we avoid the use of masks.
This notice comes after the Premier's media conference Wednesday morning.
If there is any change to the current situation, you will be contacted.
Don't come to church if you are feeling unwell and, if you have cold or flu-like symptoms, get a COVID test.
Throughout this term our Year 6 students have been exploring the spirituality of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their deep connection to the land. One element of this involved the students looking at how Indigenous spiritualities connect Aboriginal people through story and art. Students created a piece of artwork, using a variety of symbols and colours that depicted the importance of reconciliation between all Australians and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This week’s prayer is dedicated to all those in our school community and across the world, who are affected in any way by the devastating spread of Coronavirus.
Last Friday night we celebrated Mark's farewell (our caretaker).
After seven years of working at Rosary School, Mark has anounced that he is ready to retire.
We also farewelled Sonia Braithwaite who has, in her role as Chaplain, supported our students since 2019. We thank her for her ability to help children develop resilience, emotional literacy and a growth mindset.
From all of us at Rosary, we wish Sonia and Mark all the very best.
We would also like to take this opportunity to welcome Joe (maintenance) to our team.
On Wednesday the 16th of June, the Year 5/6 choir from Rosary School joined other schools at St Aloysius College for the Hub Assessment. We practised the songs and choreography which will be performed at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre later this year in perfect harmony. It felt wonderful to finally be able to practise in a large group and it was easy to see that we were all practising at home and school because everyone did really well. We are excited and looking forward to performing for our family and friends.

1CM have been very busy in Mathematics, learning and making 3D objects, creating symmetrical patterns and exploring numbers in a variety of ways, including adding and subtracting using different models.
We have written information reports on animals in literacy while learning about 'Living Things' in Science. We have shared our understanding in different ways, of what determines a living thing and were lucky enough to enjoy Sylvester the rabbit’s visit.
We have explored what it means to be disciples of Jesus and tried hard to follow his example in our interactions with others throughout the school. We are building relationships within our community, including sharing experiences with our buddies and preparing a liturgy to demonstrate how this discipleship celebrates being 'together at the table'.
This week, despite new COVID restrictions, we went on an excursion to view OLSH's performance of 'The Wizard of Oz'. How exciting to be taken on a journey over the rainbow and enjoy the musical and dramatic talents of one of our neighbouring secondary schools!
