Week 10 Term 3 2021
Dear Rosary Community
This week we farewell Mrs Lucija Kowalski as she retires after 35 years of teaching at Rosary School and 42 years in Catholic Education South Australia. We thank Lucija for her contribution and commitment to the school community and wish her a long and happy retirement. We will begin the day on Friday with a whole school assembly to celebrate and acknowledge Lucija’s work. Unfortunately due to COVID-19 restrictions we are unable to have parents in the gym at a whole school assembly, however, weather permitting we will open up the large glass windows of the gym and invite parents to watch the assembly whilst standing on the Jubilee Court.
A big thank you to our Parents and Friends’ Committee on hosting such an extraordinary community event and fundraiser. The Quiz Night was sold out and enjoyed by all who were lucky enough to get tickets. The hard work of the Committee has resulted in a profit of over $10,000 which will be used to support the purchase of equipment required for the teaching and learning of the digital technologies curriculum. Well done P&F!
Last night I had the privlege of attending the Catholic Schools Music Festival. About 20 Year 5/6 children participated. The event is always a highlight for Catholic Education. I thank Mrs Kimberley Slattery for her work and co-ordination in providing this opportunity for our children. Well done choir, the performance was outstanding!
Over the past three terms I have observing and reflecting on a number of areas in the school that require some attention and focus. One of these is the school uniform.
Uniforms give students a sense of belonging and enhance pride in their school.Wearing a uniform shows unity and identity – it builds a sense of community.Research out of Macquarie University shows that high expectations regarding the school uniform has a positive impact on learning outcomes, as students develop self-discipline.
There are a number of children at Rosary School who are wearing the school uniform incorrectly and/or wearing items that are not part of the uniform – e.g. tights, skorts. Attached to this newsletter is a list of the uniform items that have been approved by the School Board and available at Campus School and College Wear.
In 2022 a sub-committee of the School Board will be established to undertake a uniform review and an invitation will be sent to all parents to join this committee. However, in the meantime, I look forward to seeing the Summer Uniform and Sports Uniform being worn correctly in Term 4.
School Uniform List:
If you have any questions regarding the school uniform please do not hesitate to speak with me.
I hope you all have a fantastic break from the school routine and return refreshed and ready for a busy Term 4.

Week 8, this term saw the Year 5’s heading off to School Camp at Wallaroo on the Yorke Peninsular.
It was the first time away on camp for the year group and everyone was VERY excited. We all had a great time and enjoyed some fantastic weather.
The activities included fishing, a Heritage Train ride, Beach activities, team building games, fitness fun, orienteering around the town and even a Movie Night!
‘Show us Your Colours’ Trivia & Games Night
The ‘Show us Your Colours’ Trivia & Games Night was a huge success. What a night!!!
Lots of fun, laughter and money raised for the robotics and coding program. The exact figure has not yet been determined, but it was in excess of $10,000. The P&F would like to thank all the sponsors for their donations, and all the attendees for their generosity. A special thanks goes to Trang Tran from Wild Little Event for putting together the colourful photo wall and table centrepieces, and Jake Graziani from Saluti alla Famiglia for cooking the delicious wood oven pizzas on site. We look forward to the children enjoying this technology next year.
Casual Day and Disco
The casual day and disco will be held on Friday, the last day of the term during the day. Each year level will have their turn to dance in the hall, with ‘Bop Til You Drop’ providing the music and ‘Wild Little Events’ providing the decorations. All students will also be given a Zooper Dooper at lunchtime, so there will be no hot chocolates tomorrow. Please remember a gold coin donation.
Term 4 Ice blocks
During term 4 we will be trialling Zooper Doopers and Berri Quelch icy block tubes. Both will be sold for 50c and available for order via Qkr! Please note though, children will not be able to choose their flavour, they will be distributed randomly.
Enjoy the school holidays and see you in term 4!!
Our new Reception children celebrated their very first Liturgy this week and we thank Father Paul for leading such a special celebration and our families for joining us.The theme of the Liturgy was love and it was warming to see the children engaged and enthusiastic to share their love through prayer. Thank you to Amy Ramsey for preparing the children and the Year 6 students for supporting our Receptions with their readings.
We thank Father Paul and our families for celebrating class Masses with us. The theme of our Year 6 Mass was “Leadership”. The children reflected on the importance of how our words and actions impact others. The theme of our Year 5 Mass was “Friends” which reminded us that we live in the image and likeness of God in our relationships with others. The children reflected on the Gospel story of The Good Samaritan and how they can use the teachings of Jesus in their relationships with others. Thank you to our Year 5 and Year 6 teachers on preparing the students.
In Religion, Year 6 students are exploring the meaning of Wonder and Awe in our life and in our world. We know that there is wonder and awe in everything we experience. We can call this Sacramental Awareness, especially when we become more aware through our senses, of our experiences of God. Their artwork beautifully depicts how they have experienced moments of wonder and awe; what they see through their eyes, think in their minds and feel in their hearts.
We were fortunate to have KESAB visit our school and run ‘Recycle Relays’ with all students. The students received a brief introduction on waste and recycling before working in relay teams to sort real items into ‘landfill’, ‘recycling’ and ‘organic’ bins. The bin colours used replicate the kerbside system of the Prospect Council area, assisting students to become great recyclers at home too! After the relay, the contents of the bins were examined, with ‘tricky’ items discussed in the group. This was a fun and active way to learn more about recycling and correctly using our new bins.
