Week 2 Term 2 2021
Dear Rosary Community
I am very excited by the learning opportunities being provided for the children this term and thought I would give you a very brief overview of some of the most exciting activities happening in each year level.
The Reception unit are doing an integrated unit of work which will incorporate an excursion to Monarto Zoo. Year 1's are learning about “Past and Present” as part of their History unit of work. They are also going to attend the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College School musical 'The Wizard of Oz' later in the term. Our Year 2 children are working on a 'Living Things' Unit for Science and will visit the Adelaide Zoo as part of their study. I was privileged to have the opportunity to view Cooper’s iMovie about Penguins.
The Year 3 children have commenced a Humanities and Social Science unit and are researching Australian landmarks. Year 4 children are working with an Aboriginal Artist in Residence throughout the term. The Year 5/6 unit are working towards their Wakkakiri performance with the support of Ground Force Studio and they will be participating in VR and Podcasting Workshops in the weeks ahead.
Other wonderful learning opportunities this term include Sports Day, Year 3/4 Tennis Clinics, Years 3-6 SACPSSA Netball Carnival and the other sports opportunities being offered by the Sports Committee and clinics organised by Mr Brenton Campbell. Our Catholic School’s Music Festival Choir will also continue to practise in readiness for their performance in Term 3.
Schools are certainly very busy places and I thank the staff for the work they do to ensure that learning is fun and engaging at Rosary School.
On Thursday 6th of April, our Deputy Principal Mrs McCormick, will be participating in the Vinnies Sleepout fundraising event on the grounds of Adelaide High school on West Terrace. For this fundraiser Mrs McCormick will take her sleeping bag and a cardboard box and sleep outdoors to raise money for the 116,000+ homeless people across Australia. Many school leaders from schools in South Australia are taking part in this event run by St Vinnies. Mrs McCormick is aiming to raise $2,000 for St Vinnies.
She is doing very well so far!
To support Mrs McCormick and Vinnies in week 5, Friday 28th of May, our school will be holding a fundraiser in which students will come to school in crazy clothes and the older students will be running a sausage sizzle. Please remember to bring a gold coin donation if you wear crazy clothes and the sausage sizzle will be available on the QKR! App for $2
If you would like to donate any money to help Mrs McCormick reach her goal, follow the link below:

Catholic Education Week – Monday 3rd to 9th May 2021
This week all South Australian Catholic schools have celebrated ‘Catholic Education Week’.
The theme this year is ‘Raising Hearts and Minds to the wonder and awe of God’s creation’.
This theme invites us as a school community to explore the mystery of God’s presence in creation and the call to action to be caretakers of each other and God’s world. Classes throughout the school have done a variety of activities to reflect on this special week.
In Year 2, classes have been ‘wondering’ how they could become stewards/care takers of creation and have explored how the Aboriginal people look after their environment through their Totems. A totem is a natural object, plant or animal and each family is responsible for the stewardship of their totem. A selection of the designs from schools across SA will be displayed at the Catholic Education Office during Term 3. In addition, schools will be able to purchase Raising Hearts and Minds Prayer cards featuring one of their student’s artwork.
Year 3 and year 4 classes had an incursion with an artist to help them to learn about and create intricate mandalas as a way to enhance their prayer experiences.
2AF and their buddy class 6MB explored creation and took photos of what raised an emotion of awe and wonder.
In year 1, the children are ‘Raising Hearts and Minds through an ecological focus by investigating ‘waste’. At the end of each day they are photographing how much land fill,co-mingled and organic waste being collected and sorted just in class each day. They will monitor how well they are doing using the correct bins and reducing waste to look after God's creation. The children are taking ownership of how they can ensure that we all enjoy the ‘wonder and awe’ of god’s creation.
Reception children explored their environment taking photos of natural things that they identified with awe and wonder. The photos were then put together to make a movie.
As part of the Year 5 Crossways unit, children have been learning about the Catholic Social Teachings - in particular 'Stewardship of Creation'. Today they all went to the oval with their sketch books. They used all of their senses to engage with and contemplate the 'wonder and awe of God's creation'. The feedback was they definitely want to do that again. There is something significantly special in being 'one' with nature and with God.
Loving God,
Guide us to know life in its fullness, to raise our hearts and minds to know God’s love.
Raise our hearts and minds to be inspired by Jesus, the Catholic faith and tradition.
Raise our hearts to be loving, compassionate and respectful.
Raise our minds to be inquisitive, capable and seek truth.
May we be aware of listening to the stirring of our hearts to prompt action.
Guide us to respond to the needs of others and all of God’s creation.
In all our thoughts, words and actions, help us raise our hearts and minds in creating the world you desire.
Loving God hear our prayer.
This term we have commenced working with Grieve Gillett Anderson Architects to develop a Masterplan for Rosary School. Lisa McCormick (Deputy Principal), Rebecca Moore (Chairperson of the School Board), Mel Fazio (Business Manager), Nikolai Zarucki (CESA) and I have begun the consultation process.
I look forward to sharing updates with you as our Masterplan is developed.

Term 1 flew by very quickly. We made a lisst of some othe the learning experiences we completed, and it surprised us as to how much we did this year. We would like to share some of the activities that we enjoyed the most:
- Our Australian flags look great!
- We had a great time drawing a landscape with a tree, with our teacher's technique
- The landmarks were fantastic as we learnt a lot
- We really enjoyed doing Reconciliation
- We also learned about what makes a healthy diet
Planning is underway for the celebration of the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist for 2021 in the North Adelaide / Prospect Parish. We have received approval from the Archdiocese to have two ceremonies for Confirmation on Saturday, 26th June, at 10am and 2pm. Dates for Eucharist have not been decided. Further information regarding both sacraments will be provided to families as soon as it comes to hand.
Does your child become very afraid of certain situations or objects, worry about a lot of things, get very distressed, or try to avoid things they fear?

We are very excited about our whole school sports day coming up on Friday 21st May at SA Athletics Stadium. A letter was sent home this week and sent out via SchoolStream which has information about the day as well as a consent form to return.
In brief, the school will transport the children to the stadium beginning at 9am. We will spend the whole day there with children participating in a range of events – both athletic and relay type events. Mr Campbell will provide a program of events as the day gets closer.
Please note that all children will need to be collected from the venue at 3pm. Only children enrolled in OSHC for that day, will be transported back to school by bus.
