Week 2 Term 2 2024
Dear Rosary School Community
After packing up classrooms at the end of Term 1, I was disappointed to be informed during the term break that the project was held up. We certainly won’t pack up again until I receive a Certificate of Occupancy!
Term 2 has started well and as I visit classes I see children happy and engaged in learning. I am most excited about the weather forecast next Wednesday – no rain! I am looking forward to a wonderful 2024 Sports Day.
On Saturday morning school soccer commences. We have 147 children registered. I hope to get to some of the games this weekend. Thank you to all our coaches and team managers who support the children each week. Thanks also to Vanessa Roberts, Katie Maiolo and Brenton Campbell for their work behind the scenes getting the program organised for Rosary School.
There was a wonderful buzz in the staffroom today as children chose a gift for their mother to celebrate Mother’s Day. A special day every year set aside to acknowledge the work of women involved in loving and caring for children.
Thank you to our P&F for your work in preparing the stall and brekky. Over 155 women have registered to attend the brekky. I look forward to seeing lots of Mums on the Jubilee Court tomorrow morning and invite as many as possible to stay as the Year 2NP class present a special Mother’s Day Assembly.
Lord God, We lift up all mothers to You. Grant them the strength to face the daily challenges with courage and the wisdom to guide their children. Encourage them when they are weary and inspire them when they feel overwhelmed. Bless them with Your peace and love, now and forever. Amen.Have a great day Sunday celebrating with family – I hope all our mums feel an extra bit of appreciation and acknowledgement on Sunday.
As the cooler weather sets in and the children are looking for more warmth it is important that they wear the uniform correctly. A gentle reminder to families –tights are not to be worn as part of the active wear uniform. All children should wear the school logo tracksuit pants. Please speak to me if you are unable to organise for your child/ren to be in the correct uniform.
2026 Reception Enrolment Meetings will occur this term. If you know of anyone who is interested in enrolling their child at Rosary School please direct them to the School website where they can book into a Principal Tour and download enrolment forms. Individual tours can be facilitated if the dates on the website are not suitable.
Regards
Susan
Resilience Project
As you are all aware, we have been successfully delivering a Student Wellbeing Program in conjunction with the Resilience Project since the start of this year. We will be hosting a Parent Information Session to outline the program for families and to explain the philosophy behind the program for parents who may be interested in finding out more. This will take place in the staffroom on Monday May 20 at 6:15pm. Please email me at stephen.campion@rosary.catholic.edu.au if you will be in attendance.
Gratitude
Over the next few editions, I will be taking the opportunity outline in a little detail the main elements of our Resilience Project at Rosary School. In this edition, we will commence with gratitude and I will suggest some ways that families can build on the work that we cover on gratitude in school.
Working on gratitude helps us to be thankful and appreciate what we have in our lives, rather than focusing on what we don’t have or what we want. When we practise being grateful, we start to scan the world to look for positives. Practising gratitude every day increases our levels of energy, and helps us to feel happier and more focused, determined and optimistic. It even helps us have better sleep, lowers levels of anxiety and depression and we are less likely to get sick. So many benefits – let’s all try to be grateful for the things and people in our lives every day!
Suggested Whole Family Activity
Gratitude Scavenger Hunt
- As a family create a scavenger hunt list of things that make you happy or you are grateful for, you can make your own list or use the examples below:
- Something that makes you happy
- Something you love to smell
- Something you enjoy looking at
- Something that is your favourite colour
- Something you like in nature
- Something that is useful for you
- Each member of the family uses the list and has to find as many things as they can
- You can hunt for things inside or outside, or both. You can hunt for real things, or you can also do this using magazines or pictures from the internet
- After a set amount of time hunting, come back together, have a look at what each person collected and let them explain why they are grateful for each item.
Clothes Drive for the Homeless in our Community
We are proud to support the work of the Sister Janet Mead's Adelaide Day Centre for the Homeless. As the cold weather kicks in and the number of homeless people in Adelaide appears to be on the increase, we are asking for donations of the following items - blankets, sleeping bags, small tents, raincoats, jackets, gloves, scarves, hats, track pants, socks and small umbrellas. All donations will be gratefully received and we will pass onto the Sister Janet Mead's Homeless Centre. All used items in good condition are welcome.
If you could drop off items to the classroom of your son/daughter by Friday May 17, that would be hugely appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
All schools in South Australia celebrate Catholic Education Week in Term 2 Week 3 from Monday May 13 – Sunday May 19.
The theme for Catholic Education Week 2024 centres on 'Raising Hearts and Minds to the wonder and awe of God’s creation' through the lens of ecology and stewardship.
I am happy to provide all families with the prayer for Catholic Education Week below.
Loving God,
Guide us to konw lide in its fullness, to raise our hearts and minds to know God's love.
Raise our hearts and minds to be inspired by Jesus, the Catholic faith and tradition.
Raise our hearts and mind to be inspired by Jesus, the Catholic faith and tradition.
Raise our hearts to be loving, compassionate and respectful.
Raise our minds to be inquisitive, capable and seek trurh.
May we be aware of listening to the stirring of our hers to prompt action.
Guide us to respond to the needs of others and all the God's creations.
In all our thoughts, words and actions, help raise our heart and minds in creating the world you desire.
Loving God hear our prayer.
Amen

APRIM
Mathematics
In Mathematics, we have been learning about measurement. This term we have focused on capacity in our measurement unit. We have learned how to measure capacity, how to read capacity and how to draw capacity using millilitres and litres.
To show our understanding of capacity we were tasked with creating a magic potion. In this potion it had to have a name, a purpose and creative ingredients that when added together equalled 1L exactly, or 1000mL!
Media Arts
In Media Arts, we had so much fun recreating famous artworks. We worked collaboratively with a partner to research, select, plan, design, photograph and edit our own media art piece. It was a great learning experience because we could be as creative as we wanted to be. Here are some of our masterpieces!
Hi Rosary Community
The Digital Technology Leaders have been busy planning for the new Digital Technologies Hub. We can’t wait to share photos with you very soon!
This week we thought about sharing some facts about technologies that we found interesting.
Did you know...?
The first VR headset was invented in the 1960's and was named the 'Telesphere Mask' by inventor Morton Heilig.
If you put all of the data in the world onto blu-ray disks, you’d have a stack of discs that would stretch way past the moon!?
(What are blu-ray disks? Had to ‘Google’ that one!)
Google processes over 8.5 billion searches per day!
Technology can help us combat climate change.
Google was up for Sale in 1999.
In 2020, 46% of Australian children aged between 6-13 used a mobile phone!
The first computer mouse was called the 'X-Y Position Indicator for Display Systems'.
Hedy Lamarr and George Antheil invented a system which allowed radio waves to jump onto different frequencies. The idea was originally to stop the US Navy’s radio signals from being jammed by their enemy in World War 2.
We hope you enjoyed the fun facts!

Ps. Why are laptops like air conditioning units? They stop working properly when you open too many windows!!!
