Week 4 Term 2 2023
Dear Rosary Community
Held annually in Term 2, Catholic Education Week is about celebrating the excellent teaching and learning across Catholic Education SA. During Week 3 this term, Catholic Education South Australia encouraged all Catholic Schools to reflect on what they love about their school and what makes our community so special! When I talk to my friends about my work, I speak about the beautiful children and families that are part of our school community. I reflect on the way teachers speak to and care for the children in their classes and the respectful relationships they establish with each student. During this time of redevelopment, I am also overwhelmed by the positivity of the community in managing the challenges that a building project brings. Thank you to children, families and staff for your support!
I had the opportunity to spend a morning at School Soccer on Saturday, 13 May. This was the first game in the 2023 season. I particularly enjoyed watching our Reception children play their first game. We have over 130 children participating in school soccer. I thank the coaches and team managers for their support. A special thank you to Vanessa Roberts who co-ordinates the program. Vanessa is a wonderful parent volunteer and her dedication has seen the after school sports program grow school soccer to 15 teams.

Staffing News
I am delighted to announce the appointment of Ms Olivia Huggert as the mid-year Reception teacher. Olivia will work closely with Mrs Laura Pedron to plan and prepare the teaching and learning for our new students. I am also delighted to announce that Mr William Brown will replace Ms Amy Ramsey as the 5/6AR classroom teacher. William will work alongside Mrs Nicole Telfer and Ms Maria Boccaccio to ensure a continuity of learning for the children in 5/6AR.
Child Safety
Each year it is a requirement that I share with you information about our responsibility to ensure that Rosary School is a child safe environment. Every child has the right to be safe. Schools are mandated child safe environments with legal, policy and procedural requirements for staff and volunteers. The South Australian Commission for Catholic Schools (SACCS) requires its schools to implement child safety policies and practices including child safety education. For further information, please visit Safe Environments for All on the Catholic Education South Australia website.
I welcome families to come in for a chat whenever you have questions about what is happening at Rosary School.
After consultation with staff, students and parents we have developed a new Strategic Plan (2023-2026). This was approved at the School Board Meeting on Tuesday, 23 May. The new Strategic Plan and the 2023 Annual Improvement Plan are available on our school website.
Regards
Susan
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability. (Acts 2:1-4)
This Sunday, being Pentecost Sunday, marks the end of the Season of Easter in our Church. At Pentecost, the apostles were filled with the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and from that moment they were inspired to preach the Good News of Jesus Christ.
As modern-day disciples and followers of Jesus, we are called to display those values in all of our interactions. We pray to the Holy Spirit to guide us in our lives and in all our decision making.
National Reconciliation Week takes place annually between May 27 and June 3. The theme for 2023 is, “Be a Voice for Generations.” It is a challenge to each of us to be a voice for reconciliation in our everyday lives- where we live, work, and socialise.
National Reconciliation Week is a time for all us all to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
National Sorry Day is tomorrow (26 May) and we remember and reflect on the treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their family as part of the Stolen Generation policies.
We have now commenced our Vinnies Winter Appeal at Rosary. Thank you to those families who have already made contributions to our appeal.
Every classroom has a basket for items and posters to remind our young people to make donations for those less fortunate in our society.
The focus between now and the conclusion of Term 2 is non-perishable food items.
An update to our previous communication.
We are thrilled to anounce that we have sent $3000 to Project Compassion.
This is amazing generosity on the part of our communnity. Thank you all!
Thank you in advance for supporting our Vinnies Winter Appeal.
If you are aware of any families who are doing it tough at the moment, please ask them if they would appreciate any support from our school community. If so, then we can reach out to them and assist through providing meals for the family at this time.
In our support for each other as members of this community, I would also like to encourage members of our community to make some bulk meals that we can have ready to provide for other families who are facing challenges. We have already assisted members of our community who have recently suffered a bereavement in their family.
If you are interested in joining the Rosary School Ministry Care Program and making meals for families in our community, please email me at stephen.campion@rosary.catholic.edu.au

This term, the Year 3 technology focus has been on Robo cup. We are learning to code the robots and make them turn around quickly. Our robots are made out of Lego and they are controlled with our iPads.
We had a parent volunteer, Simon Coad come and set up our robots with us. We have learnt how to make the robot go faster and slower and make it go backwards and forwards. We have also made it talk and say ‘hello’ to us. Simon also showed us how to make the robot stop when it senses it is getting close to a wall.
We will continue with this learning for the rest of the term and build our robots to compete towards the end of the term – stay tuned!

Mother's Day Stall / Breakfast
On Thursday, 11th May we had our Mother's Day stall, which allowed children to select a gift for $5 and present it to mum on Mother's Day. There were lots of happy faces browsing through the wonderful selection of gifts that were on offer. We sold just over 570 gifts this year and it was a great success.
The following day we had our Mother's Day breakfast with yummy bacon, egg, spinach and mushroom sandwiches on offer plus a coffee van. The sun was shining and the rain stayed away for everyone to be outside on our newly resurfaced Jubilee court. There was also a raffle with some fabulous prizes that had been donated, we raised $350 to help an Adelaide women's shelter.
Thank you to all the P and F volunteers who assisted with running the mothers day stall and cooking/hosting the breakfast and to the people who donated prizes for the raffles. It is great to see the tremendous support we have in our school community to make all of this happen.
