Week 4 Term 3 2023
There is lots to celebrate this week!
Congratulations to our P&F on a wonderful Quiz Night. Thank you to the Rosary families and friends and to many local businesses who generously donated to our silent auction and raffles. Thank you to those families and friends who attended the evening. A special thank you to the organisers – a wonderful community event for our school.
Our Year 3 children attended the SA RoboCup event at St Peter’s College on Monday. It was wonderful to see the children and the parent volunteers get excited during the challenges. Our children were often competing against older children and children who had chosen to participate in robotics as a co-curricular activity. Rosary came away with a first, second and third. Thanks to Kim and Simon Coad, the Year 3 teachers and to our parent volunteers. Our Year 3 children should be very proud of their achievements.
On Wednesday night our Year 5/6 children performed “Shrek’s Journey of Change: Experiencing Courage, Friendship and Acceptance”, their Wakakirri story dance at the Norwood Town Hall. What a wonderful culmination of their music and drama learning. The backstage preparation, makeup, costume design, stage management and performance skills were outstanding. Many people contributed to the success of this event – the children, their families, the Year 5/6 classroom teachers, Mrs Kimberley Slattery and the GroundForce team.
Please continue to read the newsletter – there is some important information about the redevelopment and the Father’s Day Stall and Father’s Day Brekky!
BADGE will be undertaking the concrete installation to the level 1 floor area of the new building on Tuesday 22nd August.
The concrete pour involves placement of 100m3 of concrete, this equates to 18 concrete truck deliveries to the site. The concrete delivery will be via Gladstone Road school entry, exiting via Staples Court. The trucks will be reversing from the Staples exit toward the concrete pump placed in front of the site safety office. The concrete delivery will commence at 7am. This will be continuous truck delivery, 4 x trucks per hour, with last truck at around 1pm. Traffic management will be in place on both Gladstone Road and Staples Court to assist vehicle and pedestrian movement.
The works activity will impact Rosary School in the morning at drop off time, please allow some extra time on Tuesday morning as traffic may be a little slower.
Thank you
Susan
This is the last edition of our newsletter in advance of our 29 Year 4 students receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation and First Holy Communion over the weekend of August 26/27.
These are hugely significant events in the lives of our young people, as they confirm the vows taken for them at their Baptism and receive the Body of Christ for the first time at Mass.
During Confirmation, they will renew the baptismal promises that were taken for them and then they make their own profession of faith through the Creed. The Bishop will then extend his hands over them and invoke the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on them. Through the laying on of hands and the anointing with chrism by the Bishop they will be sealed with the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
For our young people, this represents an opportunity to look at their Catholic faith in a more adult way - exploring, reflecting and deciding to make an intentional commitment to learn and live the Catholic faith and to act accordingly. For the parents of our young people, Confirmation represents an important accomplishment in the parenting of a Catholic son or daughter, and an opportunity to talk about our faith with them in a more grown-up way.
Confirmation completes Baptism. It is as if the Bishop seals and approves the Baptism celebrated earlier in life. It represents a personal commitment to grow in the knowledge, love, and practice of our faith.
When our young people confirmed, they will gain a new identity as a full member of the Catholic Church. They are making the decision to celebrate this sacrament, and then to carry out their decision as they learn, live and love their faith and membership of the Church.
As a community, we pray for our young people, their families and their sponsors as they move towards this incredibly significant milestone.

On Wednesday August 9, our Year 5 and Year 6 students accompanied by their teachers and some of our parents walked for 1km from Rosary School to Blackfriars School and back in their support of the Hutt Street Centre and its work in assisting those who are homeless in Adelaide.
Our students were wonderful ambassadors for Rosary School with their positive enthusiasm for the Hutt Street Centre and for their impeccable behaviour as they moved through the centre of Prospect.
Thank you to all of our families who made a donation. We raised $320 for the Hutt Street Centre.
The P&F hosted the Rosary School quiz night fundraiser last Saturday at the North Adelaide Football Club with 140 people attending.
The night was a huge success! Full of fun, lots of laughter, crazy dancing and some high-pitched singing. Thank you to everyone who attended and made it as fun as it was. We hope you had a fantastic time.
Our fundraising purpose was to support the development of outdoor green learning spaces and nature play. Where possible we wanted to go paperless and be as inclusive as we could so everyone could participate.
This year we moved our silent auction to an online platform. With over 80 items listed, this meant anyone could view our auction items and bid on them. It also meant that people received a text message to say, “you have been outbid on an item”. This caused quite a bidding war amongst the staff, with several of them bidding against one another - it was really fun to watch.
Our class and community donations helped support the creation of 17 raffle prizes and in keeping with our aim of going paperless the raffle was drawn online by a random number generator. This again allowed for those who were unable to attend to purchase raffle tickets and participate.
Our committee was able to put together 3 fantastic live auction items:
- 6.64 KW Solar System donated by AA&F Electrical.
- Parents Night Out which included 1 night accommodation in Executive Room for two, with breakfast and parking available thanks to the Grand Chancellor Hotel; 700ml 98 degrees Chocolate Gin thanks to Lot.100; 2 x double passes to Palace Nova Cinema; Dinner Voucher thanks to Co & Nay and some bath bombs & bubbles.
- Exclusive Langmeil Bundle thanks to Leigh from Langmille Wines Barossa, which included a 1.5L Valley Floor 2018 Shiraz; a 750ml 2022 Bella Rouge Rose; a 750ml 2022 Three Gardens Grenache Shiraz and an exclusive Old Vine Garden experience for four people, tasting some of Langmeil’s old vine wines.
For the first time we introduced a mystery box which had over $1,000 of value locked inside. 150 keys were sold and after more than 140 people tried to unlock the padlock, Mai Huynh was the winner.
Our wine wall wine pull was also a huge hit. This year we received some beautiful donations of wine for you to enjoy.
If you were the lucky winner of a silent auction, a raffle or the wine wall but did not attend on the night, a text message will be sent from the P&F letting you know how to collect your item.
The night would not have been the success that it was without the hard work of those who volunteered their time to organise the venue, source donations, load the online site, bundle and wrap the raffles and wine wall and manage the marketing.
Thank you to all the businesses who sponsored our event and gifted us such wonderful donations.
The Committee is working through the post event activities, and we look forward to sharing with you soon the fundraising total as well as all the businesses who supported our donations. In the meantime, check out some of the pictures from the night.
Stay tuned!!!

We are pleased to inform our school families that there will be no increase in school fees for the 2024 school year.
Catholic Education SA has announced it will freeze tuition fees at its 84 Diocesan schools for the 2024 school year.
“We recognise that cost-of-living increases are putting significant pressure on families,” says Dr Neil McGoran, Executive Director, Catholic Education SA.
“Growth in enrolments across the State in our 101 Catholic Schools, together with prudent financial management, puts us in a position where we are able to hold tuition fees at this year’s level.”
Dr McGoran said the fee-freeze will not impact the quality of education.
“We’re committed to keeping school fees as low as possible and ensuring a Catholic education is affordable and accessible to all.”
Since 2019, Catholic Education SA has been implementing the Making Catholic Education More Affordable Initiative to ensure Catholic schools are accessible to any family who wants their child to have a Catholic education.
In addition to the fee-freeze, further fee remissions are available to any family who is struggling to pay school fees due to financial difficulties. Families should contact Melanie Fazio our Business Manager for more information.
