Week 6 Term 2 2022
Dear Rosary School Community
Last Sunday we remembered the day the disciples received the Holy Spirit in a special way. The story in Acts 2 describes a powerful wind and tongues of fire as the Holy Spirit was poured out on the disciples and they in turn shared the story of Jesus with many. Pentecost is often referred to as the birthday of the Church. This Sunday our focus is The Trinity. Trinity, in Christian doctrine, the unity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as three persons in one. The doctrine of the Trinity is considered to be one of the central Christian affirmations about God and it can also be a difficult one to understand. I have heard it shared simply with children as being like an egg – one egg with three parts, shell, white and yolk. However we try to make sense of The Trinity - it in important part of our Catholic faith that we speak of one God.
Each year it is a requirement that share with you information about our responsibility to ensure that Rosary School is a child safe environment. Every child has the right to be safe. Schools are mandated child safe environments with legal, policy and procedural requirements for staff and volunteers. The South Australian Commission for Catholic Schools (SACCS) requires its schools to implement child safety policies and practices including child safety education. For further information, please visit Save Environments for All on the Catholic Education South Australia website.
School drop off and school pick ups can be stressful times for parents and caregivers and at times we make decisions to respond quickly in situations and break the parking rules. I am sure many of you are aware that we are currently experiencing significant attention from the Traffic Management Controller on Gladstone Road and a number of families will have received fines. A concerned parent also contacted me this week about the danger of cars waiting in the pick up line banking up onto Prospect Road. By parking correctly and observing traffic and parking signs, you can help to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists. Thank you for your co-operation.

Having recently moved from Queensland to beautiful Adelaide, my wife and I have experienced the warmest of greetings from everybody and we already feel right at home. Nowhere has this been more evident than the lovely welcomes from students, staff and parents at Rosary School. One aspect of acclimatisation that has been challenging has been the wintry conditions that we all have been facing. However, as I am originally from Dublin, you would think that I would be used to such conditions.
Leaving such matters aside, we know that inclement weather conditions makes life ever more difficult for those in our community who are doing it most tough. We think of those people who face poverty or homelessness in our community.
However, as a community we know that we can do so much more for those in our midst. I have been engaging with our local Vinnies Chapter and discussing the most practical ways that we can support their work.
The Vinnies volunteers are happy to accept any food donations. The items they can always use however are the non-perishables (in any size), such as:
- pasta
- rice
- canned tomatoes
- canned tuna
- canned or packet soups
- breakfast cereal
- canned fruit
We will set up collection tubs in each classroom and in our staffroom for students, families and staff to contribute as we support the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. We encourage all members of our community to contribute any of the items listed until the last day of Term 2.

Thank you for your feedback regarding the Rosary School Master Plan. The School Board and Master Planning Committee have considered all the feedback received from North Adelaide Prospect Parish, the Dominican Sisters, old scholars, current and past parents and families.
The Master Plan process was undertaken during 2021. The Committee met numerous times with the architect, engineers, traffic and building consultants. At each of these meetings the school’s Catholic identity and Dominican spirituality, along with our sense of community and history was at the centre of our discussions.
After reviewing the feedback the School Board of Rosary School has made a decision to move forward into the planning phase to ensure that all families wishing to have their child educated in a faith filled environment will have the opportunity to enrol at Rosary School.

Netball Registration (or Expression of Interest) is still open. We encourage anyone who would like to play netball to complete the form on the QKR app. We have a number of children who are informing us that they would like to play netball commencing in Term 3. By completing the QKR form, you are indicating your consent for your child to participate and they will be placed in a netball team. We would love to be able to enter some teams again this year.
We also have some Rosary School Beanies and Scarfs available for purchase. Beanies are $20.00 and scarves are $25.00. You can purchase these using the QKR App – School Payments – Sports Apparel. Once you have paid for you items they can be sent home with your child and/or collected from the Front Office. At this time of year a scarf and beanie would be fantastic inside cold basketball stadiums and out at Saturday morning soccer!
Sports Committee
As you may be aware, a sub-committee co-ordinated by the School Board has been established to undertake a uniform review and an invitation was sent to all parents to join this committee. Very shortly a simple survey will be forwarded to the entire community for feedback.
Uniforms give students a sense of belonging and enhance pride in their school. Wearing a uniform shows unity and identity – it builds a sense of community. High expectations regarding the school uniform has a positive impact on learning outcomes, as students develop self-discipline.
There are a number of children at Rosary School who are wearing the school uniform incorrectly and/or wearing items that are not part of the uniform – e.g. tights, skorts. Attached to this newsletter is a list of the uniform items that have been approved by the School Board and available at Campus School and College Wear. Until the uniform review is complete, we ask that children wear the school uniform correctly. If or when changes are made there will be a transition period provided to ensure families are not significantly impacted financially.
If you have any questions regarding the school uniform please do not hesitate to speak with me.

Throughout prayer and Religious Education, 3FM students have learnt about the meaning of Pentecost which celebrated 50 days after Easter, and that he Holy Spirit enables people to live good and loving lives. Some activities investigated the fact that you can’t always see ‘wind’, but you can see the effects of it.
Year 3 learners, and children from other year levels, have enjoyed the SEDA cricket and football clinics over the last 5 weeks.
Jess “I hadn’t done tackling before. We ran up to Bob (the tackling bag) and tackled it. You jump on it, tackle and fall – it was a bit weird.”
Vaughn - “At cricket, I had to run so much, like I’ve never run before. My favourite game was the “Wait, Go and Stop” game.”
Danielle – “When playing football, I liked to tackle Bob. Last week I liked throwing footballs at the mat, trying to get a goal past people blocking it, throwing the ball at Bob and in the hoop.”
Emile - “I got better at batting by learning how to hold the cricket bat, how to hit the ball when someone threw the ball and I hit it. The SEDA clinics were really fun because I learnt another sport.”
As part of our Art discoveries, we have explored the different elements of Art. Example photos show line drawings focusing on texture and paintings of our mothers with the use of line, colour and shape using the media of lead pencil, black crayon and watercolour paint.
We were very excited, like most students at Rosary, that we could finally meet our Buddies. We chose NAIDOC week to meet and join together with 1TC for Reconciliation activities to build relationships and discover how we can help in small ways to start the reconciliation process. 3FM learners painted a footprint gift for their buddy for NAIDOC week.
In Health this term 5/6SC have been exploring 'Influences'. To start our unit off we discussed our own identities. This led us to a discussion about how our identities are influenced by our environment and the people around us. Below is the fantastic artwork that we created as part of our exploration.
Our Health topic on 'Influences' has led us into exploring 'Moral Decision Making' in Religion. We discussed where our moral decisions come from and what conscience means. The students thought deeply about these topics before we explored the Ten Commandments
