Week 6 Term 2 2024
Dear Rosary School Community
It has been an exciting week moving into our new building. Whilst we are still waiting on the arrival of some furniture, the value added by new teaching, learning and breakout spaces is already being appreciated by the children and the teachers.
Next Thursday we will open the building between 8.00am and 8.30am and from 3.00pm to 3.30pm for any families that would like to walk through the new learning spaces.
As we enter into these cold winter months, I remind families to keep children home when they are sick.
At school we continue to teach children good hygiene and other healthy habits. We remind children to:
- Stay home when you are sick
- Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
- Practising hand hygiene
Teachers keep their teaching and learning spaces clean, regularly wiping down surfaces to prevent the spread of germs. We really appreciate your co-operation in reducing the spread of diseases.
Tomorrow is a pupil free day and the teaching staff will engage in some wellbeing professional learning – “Circle Time”. Circle time supports the development of respectful social interactions among children and it helps children develop positive relationships.
Enjoy your extra long weekend!
Regards,
Susan
The Resilience Project
On Monday May 20 we had a Parent Information Session on the Resilience Project.
We shared multiple resources with families, and we had very good conversations about the positive impact that the Resilience Project has had on our community.
For those who may be unaware, we have been working with the Resilience Project in all classes since January with the ultimate aim of improving the Wellbeing of all of the young people in our care.
Please follow the following link to access the video resources that we shared with families present on the evening.https://theresilienceproject.com.au/2023-parent-carer-hub-inspire-hugh/
There is an introductory clip on the Resilience Project, as well as video material explaining the core concepts of Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness and Emotional Literacy.
St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal
As in previous years, we will be supporting the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal.
We encourage all members of our community to contribute any of the items listed below up until Tuesday July 2.
The Vinnies Team will prepare food packages for those in the greatest need in our community. At this time of year, the items that Vinnies finds most useful are pasta and pasta sauce, rice, tuna, tinned vegetables, tinned fruit, breakfast cereals, jam, tea, coffee, cordial and long life milk. In general, any non-perishable food items will be gratefully received.
In addition, small toiletry items, such as bars of soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes are also very useful. Please drop any items into the collection basket for the Winter Appeal in your child's classroom.
Thank you very much for your generosity at this time.
Sr Janet Mead Homeless Centre
Following on from our wonderful community response which resulted in huge numbers of valuable clothes items being donated to support the work of the Sr Janet Mead Centre for the Homeless, I enclose a beautiful card expressing the gratitude of the volunteers at the Centre for our community's efforts.
On Thursday of Week 5, the Year 1 students celebrated their Liturgy on the theme of Discipleship with families and Father Mannes. The Year 1 students have been unpacking what it means to be a disciple of Jesus and how this relates to their own lives.
During Year 1 Literacy and Science lessons, students in 1EE have been learning about Animal Information Reports. The students in 1EE have been exploring the terms classification, habitat, diet and appearance. Children have enjoyed learning about how to draw and label the different animals we have been researching.
We were blessed with a beautiful morning to celebrate Mother’s Day on Friday 10th May at Rosary School.
We enjoyed a bacon and egg breakfast roll together, as we caught up with the many women (and some gentlemen) of our school community.
A huge number of over 150 attendees made our morning very special, before many were then able to move into the Jubilee Hall for a memorable Mother’s Day Assembly led by 2NP.
A special thank you to all who purchased raffle tickets during our Mother’s Day Breakfast. We raised over $500 for our chosen charity “Share The Dignity” (www.sharethedignity.org.au)
As always, we are grateful to our many volunteers who contribute in any way they can. We would also like to express our appreciation to our local businesses who donated very generously: to Cat at Muratti for the donation of eggs; to Belinda at Baker's Delight at Norwood; to Bobby at the Blossom Box for the donation of the flower arrangement, and to the Briggs and Ruggiero families for our First Prize, the donation of an Endota Spa voucher.
A very special morning was enjoyed by all, and we hope that it led to a beautiful weekend of celebration and gratitude for the exceptional women in our lives.
