Week 7 Term 1 2024
Dear Rosary School Community
I have had the privilege as the Principal of a Parish Primary School to work alongside Fr Paul Rankin, our Parish Priest and President of the Rosary School Board. Fr Paul has been very supportive of the work I have undertaken at Rosary School, he has been an active member of the School Board but more importantly a fantastic leader of faith in our school community – engaging with staff, children and families each week at our school liturgies and masses.
Fr Paul has been asked by the Dominican Provincial to move to Melbourne. Fr Paul will finish his work as the Parish Priest in North Adelaide and Prospect Parish after Easter. Over the next couple of weeks, we will cherish our last few liturgical celebrations with Fr Paul.
In time, Fr Mannes Tellis will take up the position of Parish Priest and I look forward to working with Fr Mannes and welcoming him to the Rosary School community.
On Tuesday, 26 March the Rosary School AGM will be held in the Staffroom at 7.00pm. All are welcome to attend. The 2023 School Performance/AGM Report will be presented. It is available on the Rosary School website School_Performance_Report_2023.pdf. Each year we invite people to nominate for the School Board. The school board does not require a huge commitment. There five meetings each year. If you wish to nominate for the School Board please email:karin.skinner@rosary.catholic.edu.au before Friday, 22nd March. Information about the role of the School Board can be found on Catholic Education South Australia’s website:https://schoolboards.cesa.catholic.edu.au . Please do not hesitate to speak with me if you require any additional information.

On Monday March 4, we participated enthusiastically in Clean Up Australia Day. Our whole school community was involved in this huge effort, and it was a very successful morning.
Our students and staff in the Junior Years collected a huge amount of litter on the school grounds, as well as on the oval and surrounding areas. Students from Year 3 and Year 4 cleaned up Gladstone Road, Alpha Road, Chevalier Street, Olive Street and then make their way down Willcox Street.
Meanwhile, Year 5 and Year 6 students cleaned Barker Road, the grounds around Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Peel Street, and Staples Court. Students in Year 3-Year 6 met up at Memorial Gardens and we cleaned up that area also.
It was a huge effort from students and staff and everyone showed pride and care for their local community.
Thank you to all of the family and carers who joined us on the morning.
Sacramental Program 2024
Over the next few months, we have a large number of students across Year 3, 4 and 5 who will be continuing their sacramental journey. For your information, the Sacramental Celebrations involving Rosary School students in 2024 are as follows:
- Sacrament of Reconciliation for Rosary School Thursday April 4, 4 pm at Rosary Church.
- Sacrament of Confirmation for Rosary School Saturday August 17, 2 pm.
- Sacrament of First Holy Communion for Rosary School Saturday August 17 6pm or Sunday August 18, 10am.
In addition to this, we have four students who are being baptised on Sunday March 17 at 11:15am.
We ask that you join us in prayer for, and with, these students and their families as they continue their initiation into the Catholic Church.
Project Compassion
With just over two weeks of our Lenten journey to go, we ask families to continue to support our young people as they make sacrifices for the poorest people in our immediate community and in our world.
We ask that they try to make a final push to try to fill their Caritas box, in advance of its return by Tuesday, April 2.
Thank you very much in advance for your support on this matter.
Harmony Week
Harmony Week 2024 takes place between March 18-March 24. As a community, we support the message behind Harmony Week in its attempt to honour and recognise diversity and inclusion across all strands of our society.
Thursday March 21 is the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Next Thursday (March 21), we will have a Casual Clothes Day at Rosary School.
We invite all students to include orange items of clothing to encourage a positive message of mutual respect for cultural diversity in our school community and across Australia.
Students are also invited to wear clothing and costumes that reflect their ethnic background. We positively encourage all families and students to be involved on the day.
We would like all students to make a gold coin donation on the day, with all proceeds going to Project Compassion.
Holy Week Liturgies
All Rosary families are invited to our Holy Week liturgies.
All liturgies will take place in the Rosary Jubilee Centre and the details are as follows.
- Friday March 22 Palm Sunday Liturgy Reception Students 9am

- Wednesday March 27 Year 5 Holy Week Liturgy 9am
- Thursday March 28 Year 6 Holy Week Liturgy 9am

If there is anyone in our community who could support us with volunteering to do some stitching and hemming of liturgical cloths and materials for our school masses, that would be greatly appreciated.
if you are able to assist with this, please contact stephen.campion@rosary.catholic.edu.au

Identity
This term 5LD have been getting to know each other through lots of activities including sharing parts of our identities.
When creating these wonderful portraits, students were asked to think about what they look like on the outside, and the things that make them who they are on the inside. We have some super creative students in 5LD.
Science
In Science, 5LD have been learning about the different states of matter – solid, liquid and gas. We are learning about using observable features to classify matter. We made slime during one of our lessons and posed the question, Is slime a liquid or a gas. Do you know?!
Clean Up Australia Day
On Monday, Rosary School celebrated Clean Up Australia Day by walking around the local surrounds and picking up rubbish. Year 5 picked up lots of rubbish, particularly from gutters, and were happy to spend some time in the sunshine while contributing to a cleaner world.
