Week 8 Term 2 2022
Dear Rosary Community
Schools are certainly very busy places with lots of fantastic learning experiences being provided across all the year levels. Over the past two weeks we have seen: Year 1 classes visit the Marine Discovery Centre at Henley Beach, Year 3s went to Urrbrae Wetlands, the Year 5/6 students working on a pilot project with Catholic Education – Ready. Set. Future. Career Education Pilot, the Year 6 children working with Arch D Radio on podcasting, netball clinics, Catholic Schools Music Festival Choir Assessment, Children’s University Renewal SA Workshop, class Masses and liturgies and tomorrow our Reception children will visit Monarto Zoo. I thank teachers for the work they do to co-ordinate these opportunities and for our parent volunteers who assist with supervision at these events.
The highlight for me over the past two weeks has been the first Orientation visit of our 31 new Reception children on Wednesday morning. It was lovely to see them move into their classes and to chat with some new and existing parents about our school community.
Regards
Susan
The Master Plan committee has met with the Architect regarding the renovations to the Gym. The renovations will see the addition of a kitchen, toilets, storage areas, OSHC Office and OSHC quiet space. We anticipate this work to be undertaken later this year. The Architect design includes signage to the new façade of the gym and could be something like: Rosary School Veritas Centre or as in their image above Rosary School Jubilee Hall. We invite the community to provide suggestions for the name of the renovated gym. If you would like to put forward a suggestion, please email: susan.hennessy@rosary.catholic.edu.au
Friday June 24 is the Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.
In a 2013 homily, Pope Francis wrote about the Sacred Heart of Jesus, stating “It is more difficult to let God love us than to love Him! The best way to love God in return is to open our hearts and let God love us.”
What Pope Francis is saying to us is that we should be loving people and truly open to accepting God’s love in our lives. Our God loves us unconditionally and we should be always open to this overwhelming love of God.
When we are weak, filled with anger, negativity or vengeful thoughts we will not be in the mindset to welcome God’s love into our lives.
We are blessed to be in communities where love is the heart of everything. We hopefully witness love everyday in our relationships and family settings. It may not always be perfect like God’s love for us. Our husband, our wife, our parents, or our children may be going through a moment of human weakness and may not show a heart full of love when they engage with us. This is when life can be tough. We hope for the best, for perfect love from our loved ones and sometimes it may fall short.
In John 3:16, we are told “For God so loved the world that God gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in God shall not perish but have eternal life”.
I, along with my colleagues, are blessed to spend every day as co-educators with you as parents. We have the privilege of spending every workday with your sons and daughters and their joy and love is testimony to love present in our world. We thank you as parents and caregivers for placing your trust in us as educators, knowing that our school community is a perfect environment for your sons and daughters to flourish.
St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal
A reminder that our community is collecting the following items until the conclusion of this term:
- pasta
- rice
- canned tomatoes
- canned tuna
- canned or packet soups
- breakfast cereal
- canned fruit
We have set up collection tubs in each classroom and in our staffroom for students, families and staff to contribute as we support the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. Please support the Vinnies Winter Appeal in any way that you can.
- This term we have been busy exploring Information Reports.
- We planned an oral presentation on one of our favourite animals.
- We were lucky to have Cedar College students run cricket and football clinics for four weeks. We had a great time.
- During Religious Education lessons we have learnt how to be caretakers of God’s creations. We can all do the work of God by caring for our world. We know that when we re-cycle we are showing that we care for our world by reusing materials. For homework, we used old socks and materials to make sock puppets.
- As part of our HASS we have been doing some research on the different seasons in Kakadu. We would like to share two different seasons with you.

Last week our Year 3 students braved the cold, wet weather to visit the Urrbrae Wetland to participate in a tour with a focus on their Science unit, ‘Living, Non-Living and Once living Things’. They explored Indigenous plants, netted for macros and enjoyed amazing hands on activities in the Nature Education Centre.
Thank you to our wonderful teachers and parent volunteers for making this day happen!
