Week 8 Term 3 2023
Dear Rosary Community
I hope this weeks glorious weather, with its warm sunshine has rekindled your spirits with the invigorating energy that springtime brings. It certainly has lifted my spirits and put a skip back in my step!
Wakakirri
A huge congratulations to the Year 5/6 students for being awarded the Wakakirri Cultural Celebration Story Award, along with being awarded a 2023 National Award Nominee. The work, dedication, teamwork, commitment and courage demonstrated by the children is something that they should be very proud of.Thanks again to teachers and parents for their support of the Wakakirri event.
Tournament of the Minds
This year Rosary School entered two teams into the Tournament of Minds competition held at Adelaide High School on Sunday 10th September. Tournament of Minds is a program for all primary and secondary students providing the opportunity to solve authentic, open-ended challenges that foster creative, divergent thinking whilst developing collaborative enterprise, excellence, and teamwork. Challenges are set in the following disciplines: The Arts, Language Literature, Social Sciences and STEM. Our teams, made up of Year 4 students, participated in the Primary division. Teams were entered into the STEM and Social Sciences challenges. The Primary division caters for students up to Year 6. Students developed a ten-minute presentation showcasing their challenge solution and were interviewed by the judges. Students also participated in a spontaneous challenge on Tournament Day.
Our students are commended for the exceptional way that they represented Rosary School, working consistently over six weeks, to create their challenge solutions.
A special congratulations to our Rosary School STEM team, who received honours certificates and medals for their solution. This prize was awarded to teams who finished second, or third, within their relevant discipline. This is a fantastic achievement, participating against predominantly older students, in our first year. Students will receive their medals and certificates at an upcoming assembly.
A special thank you Brenton Campbell for his work in organising and co-ordinating this event. Thank you to the Year 4 teachers for their flexibility and support. Thank you, also, to the parents for allowing their child to participate and to Kim and Giovanni for providing supervision of the teams at school.
Redevelopment News
On Tuesday this week, Caroline Price, Joe D’Angelo and myself were invited to a celebratory barbecue hosted by our builders, Badge. We were joined by some tradespeople and our architects Grieve Gillett to celebrate the final large concrete pour – a wonderful milestone for our new building. The fine weather has certainly helped the building completion date remain unchanged – still scheduled to be 15 February 2024.
2024 planning
Planning for 2024 is well underway and, as part of this process, we require accurate enrolment data to finalise the school structure and staffing requirements. If you are not intending for your child/ren to remain at Rosary School in 2024, please email karin.skinner@rosary.catholic.edu.au Withdrawal of a student during a term or at the completion of the academic year requires at least one term’s notice. Failure to provide a term’s notice will result in fees being charged for the following term. This is in recognition of the fact that the School is committed to maintain the employment of teachers on the basis of known enrolments from one term to the next.
Staff often have conversations with children about their recreational time – what they do after school and on the weekends. We hear lots of wonderful stories of sporting achievements and family celebrations. There are times when children share with us information about what they do on their screens – the amount of time they spend “gaming” and watching YouTube. I know from personal experience that monitoring the use of screens is very complicated and can cause family conflict. There are some wonderful resources to support parents navigate this stage of parenting. Some that I have found useful include:

Enjoy the great weather this weekend.

From September 1 (World Day of Prayer for Creation) to October 4 (Feast of St. Francis) each year, the Catholic Church joins with other faith traditions to celebrate the Season of Creation by praying and acting together to protect our common home.
The Season of Creation began on 1 September, the World Day of Prayer for Care of Creation, and runs through to the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, 4 October. It is a time for us to focus on God’s gift of creation and to re-commit ourselves to care for this precious gift.
The Season of Creation is an ecumenical celebration and this year’s theme is 'Let Justice and Peace Flow'.
In his message for this year's World Day of Prayer for Creation, Pope Francis invites us to stand with those who live with climate and environmental justice and to "stop the war", as he puts it, against creation itself. This is the only way to bring our heartbeats together into a universal harmony.
In our staff prayers and at our school assembly, we have been reflecting on our commitment to be stewards of God's creation and to do all that we can to protect our common home.
Our school leaders' have also delivered messages to our community at assembly last week, reminding everyone of which items of rubbish go in which bin and to be conscious of doing the right thing for our environment.
In addition, our Environment Committee have already started the process of planning for our Environmental Week in Week 2 of Term 4. More news to follow on this.

APRIM
This term in Year 4, we have been investigating how we have grown and changed over our lives. Last week in 4OA, we created and shared 'treasure boxes' about ourselves to show our friends how we have individually grown up.
Students shared about the milestones they achieved, accomplishments they were proud of and physical, social and emotional changes. Students bought in important items from home and photos of themselves to share with their peers.
Some items bought in included trophies, childhood toys, baby clothes and even birth certificates and hospital bracelets! Students shared photos of themselves from when they were a baby, a toddler and a young child. Some students even had ultrasound pictures!
Here are some of the things students have said about the project:
“I liked that we got to bring in things that are special to us” – Ashlyn
“I enjoyed getting to type up what I was going to say on the computer” – Jason
“I liked learning things about me that I didn’t know from my parents” – Max
“I enjoyed sharing my items with my friends” – Will
“I liked working with my family to do it” – Arielle
Ice blocks
Ice blocks will be available every Friday in Term 4 - ready for the hot weather! You can purchase these for your child(ren) via QKR - no cash sales. The P&F will require volunteers to help facilitate this every Friday. If you are interested in volunteering and have a current Catholic clearance, please email rosarypandf@gmail.com with your name and phone number (with ice blocks in the subject line). We will then add you into our WhatsApp group where the schedule is organised.
Father's Day Breakfast 2023
On Friday, 1st September 2023, our Rosary School P&F Committee proudly hosted the Annual Father’s Day Breakfast to acknowledge, recognise and respect all the wonderful dads, grandfathers, step fathers and special persons in the lives of our students.
An amazing gourmet breakfast was enjoyed by all. Over 100+ dads, grandfathers and special persons enjoyed an egg and bacon roll, a barista-made coffee and a few delicious ‘sfogliatelle’ mini Italian cakes in beautiful sunny conditions.
The new kitchenette facilities in the Rosary Jubilee Centre with the servery window provided the perfect access and service for all.
A Father’s Day Raffle was also held with some kindly donated prizes. All proceeds from the sale of raffle ticket sales was donated to the men’s health charity - “Break Through Mental Health” totalling $261.
We would also like to acknowledge the following people for making this event so special and successful, without their generosity of time, support and donations this event would not be what it is.
Belinda & Thai P, a beautiful Rosary School family who own Bakers Delight in Norwood for very generously donating all the bread rolls for the Father’s Day Breakfast, a Bakers Delight Gift Hamper filled with delicious baked goods and a gift voucher.
Jacque & Adriana G, another wonderful Rosary family who kindly donated all the sfogliatelle Italian cakes.
Jacque G for donating a thoughtful raffle prize, a remote control car that dads can enjoy with their child or children (or just as a big kid themselves).
Catherine S for the bottles of Majella Wines very kindly donated.
Last but not least, a very special thank you to our wonderful P&F Committee members who provided their time and support both on the day of the event and behind the scenes to make this event so seamless and special.
A big ‘thank you’ to Teresa C, Melanie M and her husband Giovanni M, Ricki B, Nicole M, Jacque G, Pao B, and Sonia M.
We appreciate any feedback to further build upon and improve this event in readiness for next year.
Thank you again,
The Rosary School P&F Committee
The P & F Committee recently hosted the Rosary School biannual Quiz Night on Saturday, 12th August at North Adelaide Football club with 140 people attending.
The night was a great success! It was full of fun, laughter, games and some high pitched singing!
We would like to thank all the families, businesses and individuals who donated auction items and prizes (these are listed below). Their support of the Rosary School Community is greatly appreciated and we ask that you please support these businesses to show your appreciation.
I would also like to give a big thankyou to the P & F committee who made this all happen. It was a very big task which required many volunteers and late nights with organisation leading up to the event, during the event and after the event. I cannot emphasise enough how much it takes to be able to put on such a wonderful event for our community to enjoy.
The Committee are seeking feedback on the fundraiser. Even if you did not attend, we appreciate you taking the time to complete our survey to help for future planning. Please click on the link below:
Our fundraising purpose was to support the development of outdoor green learning spaces and nature play for the students to enjoy at school. Where possible, we aimed to go paperless and be as inclusive as possible to enable maximum participation. The decision was made to move our silent auction to an online platform so everyone could view the auction items and bid. Through the platform:
- 121 people registered;
- 92% of the registered people were actively bidding/ purchasing items through the platform;
- 91 Silent Auction items were listed for bidding with 84% of the items listed sold;
- 61 Wine Pulls were available for purchase with 80% of the wine pull sold;
- 150 Mystery Box Keys were available for purchase and ALL 150 keys sold;
- 17 Raffle Prizes were available with 555 raffle tickets sold;
- 3 Live Auctions held on the night and all sold;
- 12 of the Silent Auction Items received 10 or more bids;
- 1 Silent Auction item received 22 bids (the highest number of bids on a single item).
I am really proud to announce that together we raised $20,190. YES, that is correct! To raise this amount of money shows how strong the Rosary School community is and what this means by having so many people get behind and support it. We thank you all.
We can’t wait to see what the next big fundraiser will be in 2025!
